FAQ

QR code maker

Q. Is it free to use? Do I need to sign up or install anything?
  • It is free to use.
  • No sign-up is required.
  • No app installation is required. Open the QR code maker in your browser to get started right away.
Q. Where are QR codes generated?
  • QR codes are generated in your browser, not on a server.
Q. How do I create a QR code?
  1. Under Input Type, select Text, X Profile, or Facebook Profile.
  2. Enter your text or username. The QR code updates automatically as you type.
  3. Select a QR code color under Color.
  4. Use the viewer or export the image.
    • To display the QR code for someone to scan, click Open Viewer. Do not use the viewer if your QR code contains confidential information.
    • To save the QR code as an image for use in other media, select an image format and image size, then click Export.
  5. Scan the QR code with a reader to check that its contents are correct.
Q. What is the viewer?
  • It is a page that displays your QR code for others to scan.
  • Click Open Viewer to open the viewer in a new tab and display the QR code you created.
  • You can show the QR code on your smartphone or computer screen for someone to scan without printing it.
  • The viewer URL contains the contents of your QR code. The URL may be recorded in access logs or elsewhere, so do not use the viewer if your QR code contains confidential information.
Q. My QR code cannot be scanned. What should I do?
  • If the image is too small, export it at a larger size.
  • Do not stretch the image horizontally or vertically, or crop any part of it.
  • When placing it in a document or printed material, leave enough white space around it and keep text and patterns away from it.
  • Adjust the screen brightness and camera distance, and reduce glare when scanning.
  • Longer input creates a denser pattern. Try shortening the content by removing unnecessary text.
  • Try changing the color to black so the QR code stands out clearly against the white background.
Q. How do I create a QR code for a URL?
  • Select Text under Input Type, then enter the URL in Text.
  • Enter a URL that includes https:// or http://, such as https://example.com/.
  • Adding other text alongside the URL may prevent a reader from recognizing it as a link. Enter only the URL when sharing a website.
Q. What should I enter for an X or Facebook username?
  • Enter the username from your profile URL, rather than your display name. Do not include the leading @ or the full URL.
  • For example, if your X profile URL is https://x.com/username, enter username in X Username.
  • Similarly, if your Facebook profile URL is https://www.facebook.com/username, enter username in Facebook Username.
  • To paste a full profile URL, select Text under Input Type, then paste the URL into the text field.
Q. Can I use it for social media other than X and Facebook?
  • Yes. Select Text under Input Type and enter the URL of the profile or post you want to share.
  • Depending on the destination's privacy settings, the person scanning may need to log in or have permission to view it.
Q. Can I create QR codes for text other than URLs, including Japanese text?
  • Yes. Select Text under Input Type and enter any text, including Japanese.
  • Spaces and line breaks at the beginning and end of your input are removed.
  • How the scanned text is displayed depends on the app used to scan it.
Q. Why is a QR code displayed before I enter anything?
  • When Text is empty, the QR code displays this website's URL by default.
  • When X Username or Facebook Username is empty, the QR code displays the home page URL of the corresponding service.
  • Enter your own content before using the QR code.
Q. My input is too long to create a QR code. What should I do?
  • There is a limit to how much information a QR code can store. The number of characters it can hold depends on the types and combination of characters.
  • Try shortening the content. Increasing the image size does not increase the amount of information the QR code can store.
Q. Can I change the QR code color?
  • Yes. You can choose from 12 colors under Color. Your choice applies to the preview, viewer, and exported image.
Q. How do I save a QR code I created?
  • Export the image, or open the viewer and bookmark that page.
Q. How do I save a QR code as an image?
  1. Select png or svg under Image Format.
  2. Choose the image dimensions under Image Size.
  3. Enter a File Name if needed.
  4. Click Export.
Q. What is the difference between PNG and SVG?
  • The characteristics of each image format are listed below.
Image FormatCharacteristics
PNGAn image made up of pixels. You can insert it into documents or share it as an image. It may become blurry when enlarged significantly.
SVGAn image stored as shapes. It keeps its sharp outlines when enlarged. The app or service you use it with must support SVG.
Q. Does Image Size mean the file size?
  • It specifies the image's width and height, not the file size in KB or MB.
  • The available sizes are 64 px × 64 px, 128 px × 128 px, 256 px × 256 px, and 512 px × 512 px. QR codes are exported as squares.
  • If your input contains a lot of information, the exported image may be larger than the selected size to preserve the QR code's grid.
Q. Why does changing Image Size not change the size of the QR code on the page?
  • Image Size applies to the exported image.
  • It does not apply to the preview on the maker page or to the viewer.
Q. Do I have to enter a file name?
  • You can export with the field left blank. A file name containing the input type, color, and size is generated automatically.
  • If you enter a file name, you do not need to include the .png or .svg extension. It is added automatically based on the selected image format.

QR code viewer

Q. How do I display the same QR code in the viewer again?
  • Bookmark the page while the viewer is open.
  • Bookmark the page opened with the Open Viewer button, rather than the maker page.
  • Sharing the viewer URL lets others open the viewer and display the same QR code.
Q. Do changes on the maker page apply to a viewer that is already open?
  • No. The viewer displays the content and color from when it was opened.
  • To display updated content, open the viewer again using the Open Viewer button on the maker page. Update your bookmark if needed.
Q. Do QR codes I create have an expiration date?
  • No expiration date is set.
Q. Can I change a QR code's contents after distributing it?
  • No. Your input is stored in the QR code itself, so you cannot change the contents of an image you have already distributed.
  • Create a new QR code and replace the images or printed materials you distributed.
Q. Can I check how many times a QR code has been scanned?
  • There is no feature for counting scans.
